I’m usually not one for public service announcements, but since this is a blog and you expect me to bloviate (and this issue is near and dear to my heart), I couldn’t resist.
The friendly people at NRDC have put together this page to provide you the necessary info to obtain electricity from clean sources, (i.e. wind and solar, NOT coal or oil). It’s quite simple to switch, in fact I just did. No longer will my lovely wife and I be receiving our electricity from that wonderfully dirty coal plant in Southeast DC, but from 100% green sources. Thanks Pepco DC! It will be a little bit more of a cost per month, but it can make a huge impact on how dependent on fossil fuels our country is, and how much we contribute to global warming pollution. (*I’m not exactly sure how much of a cost change it will be, and it varies from household to household. I urge you to consider the cost difference before making the switch. Every provider should explicitly state how much $ per/kwh it will be. I estimate our bill will be about $5-10 more per month).
If you’ve already done your homework and know you’re willing to green your energy consumption, then go here and start shifting our country to clean, renewable energy. Hooray!
